Alex Corlett: Private Guitar Teacher in Ham, Richmond.
I have experience both as a private tutor and as a peripatetic tutor, working in different schools. The guitar styles I specialise in teaching are Blues, Jazz & Classical. In addition to plenty of playing experience, I have a BMus Hons from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and ABRSM Grade 8 Theory. Lessons are suitable for all ages from total beginners to advanced players (electric/acoustic). I balance learning pieces with suitable technical exercises, and am able to cover topics such as improvisation, sight-reading, accompanying and other skills needed for working within a band/ensemble. Sessions are tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. For those wishing to take classical guitar examinations, I use the Trinity syllabus.
I also provide tuition in composition, theory and arranging. Lessons in these areas deal with how to develop logical musical ideas, and how to structure them convincingly. Topics covered include harmony, melodic construction, counterpoint, instrumentation and scoring.
Lessons are an hour long, or forty-five minutes in the case of some younger students. For more information feel free to contact me on 0795 1638 922 or by email at alexander.corlett@gmail.com

Testimonials:
“I’ve been a student with Alex for 6 months now. Having started with zero musical background, and never having picked up a guitar, I was initially very worried that I would find learning impossible. However, six months on I feel completely differently thanks to the calm and professional teaching from Alex. He has an enormous passion for music and this is infectious, making each lesson an absolute joy. Alex is able to break down seemingly unfathomable techniques and theory into easy to understand steps and is a goldmine of useful tips and techniques designed to simplify the learning process. Whilst at my age I’m never going to be a rock god, I’ve been introduced to the fun that can be had learning an instrument, given lots of ‘homework’ to stretch my technique and knowledge, and achieved what I thought would be impossible – reading music! So, if you are looking for a guitar teacher – to help you learn from scratch or progress at any level, then you can do no better than Alex in my view.” – Steve Gallagher (54 years old)
“As a student of mature years and an ‘on and off’ guitarist for many of them I have found Alex’s approach to teaching the guitar both rewarding and refreshing. He listened to what I told him about what I’m trying to achieve – to be able to ‘read the dots’ rather than use tab notation and to match appropriate techniques to the level of music theory that I’ve attained elsewhere – and then put together a personalised teaching package for me. This, coupled with his enthusiastic, friendly nature and patience, has helped me both to progress and better understand various chordal structures and voicings. I am very satisfied with the standard and content of Alex’s tuition.” – Chris Stevenson
“When I started lessons with Alex, my technique was pretty bad! Now I feel far more comfortable playing various chords and simple pieces. Alex has really helped to improve the dexterity of my left hand and the control in my right. He’s also helped me iron out a few bad habits I’d picked up trying to teach myself! Alex is a patient and resourceful teacher with a good sense of humour, I’d definitely recommend his enjoyable lessons to anyone looking to improve their playing.” – Colin Jeffries (43 years old)
